Junior Coach Program

Interested in being more involved at The Hive and taking on a leadership role too? We are now accepting applications to be a junior coach assistant. This program is designed to give students aerial classroom experience that leads to stronger aerial skills, leadership exposure and pre-training for teaching aerial or acrobatics in the future.
Requirements:
Current student in level 2 or above
Minimum Age: 12
Rigging and safety training with Hive coach - 1-2 hour (need to design a short curriculum here that covers our full space training for rigging and safety exits, first aid, etc., as well as basic spotting techniques and basic warm-up)
Responsibilities:
-apparatus and mat set up for opening of class
-take role
-confidence to lead a memorized 20 min warm up when asked
-guide students to find a spot in line at the apparatus coach is leading on
-assist in spotting students to maintain safety (as trained)
-identify a student that needs extra help, comfort, encouragement or social guidance and offer it
-notice any needs throughout the class (moving mats, changing apparatus out, changing height apparatus, cleaning up spills or assisting a child who needs something extra (water, hair ties, chalk, etc)
-demonstrate skills as asked by Coach
Expectations:
-act professionally at all times - being kind and respectful to all students, even if they are not kind to you or acting in a disrespectful way (this means you cannot get snotty to a student that is upsetting you, if you can’t respond the way you “should” ask the coach for help in handling the student
-be an example to all students, demonstrating what it means to be an older aerialists, these students will look up to you and replicate your behavior
-be on time and stay until the job is done
-look for extra ways to help
-do not use your phone during your shift unless asked to use it for music, it should be put away, completely out of sight
-wear your Hive Coach Asst shirt and fitted leggings and follow all dress code requirements for students (no jewelry, stud earrings, no gum, hair back, etc) - be clean and look tidy
-be friendly and outgoing - greeting students, asking them questions about their day or their school, greet their parents
-ask the coach if you aren’t sure on something you’re trying to help with
Work trade:
Each assistant will receive an open gym membership after 4 weeks of contribution. (so each month membership reflects the class assisting from the month before)
Absences:
It is expected that any work hours missed will be made up in the form of other studio work, as assigned.
This is similar to a job, if you’re sick, you need to let us know as soon as possible that you can’t come in. Use your best judgement - if you’re contagious, stay home and rest. If you are under the weather and can tough it out, do your best to come in. Balance your homework and social life and don’t miss your shift for these reasons, this is on you to plan ahead and stay committed. Your coach is counting on you.
If you’re traveling, please give us at least 2 weeks notice to find someone to cover your shift. Even more time than that is better.
